A Modern Tribute to the Iconic 1983 DW-5000C
Casio is turning back the clock with the DW-5000R, a faithful recreation of its original G-Shock DW-5000C, which debuted in 1983. This rugged, digital timepiece embodies nostalgia and innovation, offering updates while retaining its classic appeal.
Design and Features
The DW-5000R closely mirrors the original, from the strap dimple placement to the signature "triple 10" toughness. The watch now sports:
A slightly larger case (42.3mm vs. 41.6mm).
LED backlight for improved visibility.
Use of eco-friendly biomass plastic for the bezel and strap.
Enhanced water resistance rating of 20 BAR.
Despite these upgrades, it keeps classic features like a stopwatch, alarm, and calendar.
Why It Matters
Inspired by the story of Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe, who sought to create an indestructible watch after his own shattered, the G-Shock became a cultural icon. The DW-5000R pays homage to this heritage while integrating modern sustainability.
Pricing and Availability
The DW-5000R is set to launch in Japan on December 13th for 33,000 yen (₹18,800). Global availability details are awaited.
This revival ensures the G-Shock’s enduring legacy as a blend of resilience, style, and innovation.
